the woman behind the lens

Hi, I'm Lindsay (she/her) — the woman behind the lens… and probably the one who just tracked mud through the front door.

I believe the most honest version of your life is also the most beautiful one. Not the polished, everyone-cooperating, perfectly-lit version: the real one.

That belief didn't come from nowhere. I've raised two teenagers. I know what it means to be in the thick of a season that's complicated and tender and going by faster than you're ready for. I know what it means to need a reset — mine usually involves a river, a paddle, and my dog Beesly (yes, as in Pam Beesly) weaving through the trees beside me. Nature has a way of reminding you what's worth holding onto.

I bring that same grounded presence to every session. I'm not here to perform perfection or make you do that either. I'm here to pay attention to the little things. The small moments that make up the texture of your actual life.

When I’m not shooting, you'll find me fireside with a glass of bourbon, losing spectacularly at Cards Against Humanity with my kids, and probably talking about my feelings.

I see you. All of you. And I can't wait to show you what I find.

things I hold near and dear

time with my goofy family

Some of my favorite moments happen when nobody's trying to be anything — just loud and silly and fully themselves. We're the family that turns a board game into a full-blown event. And that kind of unguarded joy? It's exactly what I look for through the lens.

my two teenagers

My kids are neurodivergent, which means they move through the world a little differently. And honestly, it's made me a better photographer. I've learned to meet people where they are, to be patient with the process, and to trust that the best moments can't be forced.

learning new things

I've followed the work of artist and photographer Kristin Lewis for years. Her art book (pictured here) lives on my shelf and still stops me in my tracks. Her style is what I aspire toward: honest, luminous, and deeply human. Every photographer has someone who made them see differently. She's mine.

finding my inner strength

In 2025, I sat on the steps outside the city courthouse and realized I had just chosen myself — maybe for the first time. Filing for divorce was the hardest thing I've ever done, but it unlocked a kind of inner strength I genuinely didn't know I had. I didn't have a plan. I just knew the only way through was the next step.

my happy place

The place I feel most at home in my body is on the water. A kayak doesn't rush, and that's the whole point. You let everything else go, you show up completely present, and you pay attention to what's right in front of you. The end of the journey was never the point. It's everything you notice along the way.

raising monarch butterflies

Since my kids were little, every spring, we tend a milkweed garden. And every year, I watch something small and ordinary become completely, impossibly transformed. There's something powerful about nurturing a living thing through its becoming. I think about that a lot when I'm behind the camera.

I believe in magic

And that magic lies in the imperfections that make each family unique. The moments that draw me in are the ones tinged with irreverence, where laughter flows freely and genuine connections unfold.

Through my lens, I seek to freeze those fleeting instances when love, laughter, and the quirks of our true selves intertwine, creating a long lasting visual story of family life.

I believe every family is unique and everyone is worthy of love and belonging. I strive to be a safe space for all.

I would be honored to photograph your story.

for me, inclusivity is not a trend

Inclusivity is woven into the very fabric of LR Photos. I am committed to creating a welcoming space where everyone can authentically express themselves. Regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability, or background, you are embraced and celebrated here. I believe deeply that everyone is worthy of love and belonging and has the right to beautiful images that reflect their unique story and connections.

If you disagree with me on this, there are plenty of other photographers out there in the Grand Rapids area who can better serve your needs.
